6 Tips for Choosing the Right Anti-Aging Skin Care Products
With the array of anti-aging skin care products available, it can be a challenge to choose the right ones for your skin. Sometimes it can seem like trial and error to find what works for you -- with the "trying" process taking up to 10 weeks for each product. But there are ways to narrow the list in determining what products are more likely to work for your skin. Here are some helpful tips for selecting an anti-aging product that will meet your skin's particular needs.
1. Lay the foundation.
Protecting your skin from damage is the best first step in any anti-aging effort. Using sunscreen and moisturizer every day will prevent damage from occurring or from worsening. Sunscreen should offer broad spectrum coverage, be water resistant, and should be reapplied frequently if you are in an area such as the beach or skiing in the mountains to offer the best protection possible.
2. Consider your skin type.
Oily skin requires a different type of product than dry or combination skin. Choose a product formulated for your specific skin type to prevent problems like breakouts or flaking of the skin.
3. Choose a priority.
Focusing on one sign of aging that you most want to see improve will help you choose a product that can help with that aspect of aging. You may be most concerned about wrinkles, age spots, or dark circles under your eyes. One product isn't likely to be the best choice for all possible skin problems, and using multiple products at the same time can cause irritation.
Taking care of your skin can slow down the signs of aging for years to come.
4. Read the labels.
You want a product that is hypoallergenic (doesn't contain common allergens) and non-comedogenic (won't clog pores). Now, even this is still not a guarantee that you won't have a reaction, but it will reduce the likelihood. Reading labels also allows you to identify ingredients used in the product and look them up to see how they work and understand possible side effects.
5. Commit to a routine.
Most products won't have much of an effect unless they are used regularly as directed. Starting out slowly is sometimes a good idea so that your skin won't get irritated, but after the adjustment period, it's important to follow a daily skin care routine if you want to see the best results possible.
6. Ask an expert.
A dermatologist or aesthetician can give you great advice on which products might be most effective and which ones are likely to be a waste of your money. Many skin care professionals recommend Vivant Skin Care products to their clients. Their exfoliating cleansers won the Dermascope Aesthetician's Choice Award for 2015; their Derm-A-Renew won the best Aesthetician's Choice Award for anti-aging serum in 2016. Vivant Skin Care offers a complete line of skin care products, with different product formulations for different skin types and anti-aging needs.
